How to Work from Home

Whether it’s a freelance marketer, or a financial contractor, more people nowadays are working from home, either full-time, or for a couple of days a week. With the rise in technology and communication, the standard worker can be connected to their team via email, Slack, Skype or have access to a shared drive, which makes working from home much easier than ever before. However, with that comes the need to make sure that your flat can adapt to your working schedule, and still feel like a home.

Here are some of our top tips to ensure that your flat can still be an amazing place to do your work:

Find a Desk Space

When doing your work from your laptop, you could quite easily sit on your cosy sofa, but this can be quite restrictive with cushions and potentially cats next to you! So try to invest in a desk for either your room, or a free area in your flat. It could quite easily be a normal dinner table which during the day is your office space, and by evening is where you eat on. Having this desk area will enable you to have a pen, notepad and all your files in one area which can be easily reached, without having that paper sliding down the sofa!

Accessories

Once you’ve got your desk space sorted, it’s time to have some accessories, which can complement your working life. Adding a calendar, clock and even a whiteboard into the area can add that extra bit of organisation to make you more motivated to work.

Wall Art

Something that you might add to bring an element of interior magic to your flat, is some nice wall art, whether that’s a scenic city view, or a painting from your favourite artist, it makes your office space look more creative and can foster unique ideas.

Plants

A working oasis isn’t complete without a desk plant or a bit of natural beauty in your office area. Plants have been known to improve productivity and can also help alleviate stress too – and who doesn’t feel happier and refreshed when there’s a house plant there!

Light it Up

One way to improve your mood and make you more relaxed is to ensure you’re working in an area where there’s good lighting, whether that’s next to a window or by having an effective desk lamp. It might seem like a small thing, but working in a bright area which isn’t gloomy will definitely make you feel like you’re in the right frame of mind to work.

Good WIFI Connection

When you work from home, you’ll be using your laptop and phone throughout the day, so it’s essential that your flat has a fast WIFI connection. You don’t want to be waiting ages for important emails to come through or having to wait for files to download. One of main aspects many will consider and try to get done immediately when they move in is to ensure they have their WIFI sorted, so it’s a must when you begin working at home.

So with these tips you’ll be able to turn your living area into an awesome place to do your work!
